NEW DELHI: Eleven candidates filed papers on the primary day of submitting nominations for the presidential ballot with one nomination having been rejected because it was not accompanied by correct paperwork, sources mentioned on Wednesday.
The method of submitting nominations for the presidential election started on Wednesday with challenge of notification. Nominations may be submitted till June 29, and the papers can be scrutinised on June 30.
The final day for withdrawal of candidature is July 2. The election can be held on July 18 and consequence can be declared on July 21.
Amongst those that filed nominations was an individual named Lalu Prasad Yadav from Saran in Bihar, sources mentioned.
Sources mentioned one nomination was rejected because it was not accompanied with an authorized copy of the entry associated to the candidate within the electoral roll of the parliamentary constituency by which the candidate is registered as a voter.
They mentioned that 11 candidates filed nominations to the Secretary-Normal Rajya Sabha, who's returning officer for the presidential ballot. Individuals who filed nominations belonged to Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The time period of President Ram Nath Kovind ends on July 24.
