Italy relaxes Covid-19 travel restrictions and here's what you need to know

As things slowly and steadily return to normal after the Covid-19 epidemic, Italy, like many countries around the world, has relaxed the Covid-19 travel ban.

According to the country’s latest travel guidelines, visitors no longer have to fill out the EU Passenger Locator form at the airport check-in form, a long and complicated process that was previously used to facilitate international communication.

The Covid-19 Green Health Pass, which was previously mandatory for access to public spaces such as restaurants, cinema halls and gyms, is no longer required. However, to visit hospitals and nursing homes, one still needs to create a green pass showing evidence of vaccination, recovery from Covid-19, or recent negative test results.

As Italy prepares for the tourist season, it has kept the mask mandate. The country has maintained a mask mandate for public places such as public transport, cinema and all healthcare facilities. There is no need for masks in malls, supermarkets and workplaces.

After two years of epidemics and lockdowns, Italy is expecting a normal tourist season.

  1. When is the best time to visit Italy?
In Italy, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are very pleasant. These months are ideal if you want a less crowded holiday.
  2. Is the mask still compulsory in Italy?
Yes, if you visit a healthcare center, go to the movies or use public transport. Apart from these, you will no longer have to wear a mask in public.
  3. How is the summer in Italy?
July and August are very hot and humid summers in Italy.
