Therapy that can help ease long covid symptoms

Occupational therapy or low-impact exercise can be the key to relieving long-term covid symptoms such as extreme fatigue, shortness of breath and brain fog, a new study from Ireland suggests.

The studies reflect two different – in some ways, the opposite – methods of dealing with the symptoms that plague chronic covid patients.

One study taught long-cove patients a four-week occupational therapy program on how to better manage their fatigue, with an emphasis on energy planning, stress management, and sleep hygiene.

Is vegetarian food healthy for growing children?

Vegetarian foods are a healthier choice for growing children – although they may slightly increase the chances of young people losing weight, a new study suggests.

A study of nearly 9,000 young children found that those who ate vegetarian food had an average weight and height similar to those of their peers who ate meat. They also had similar levels of iron and vitamin D in the blood – which made it difficult to eat meat, fish and sometimes dairy-free foods.

In 2019, teens are more likely to use their school’s mental health services

According to a research paper published online May 2 in JAMA Pediatrics, use of school mental health (MH) services has increased among adolescents in 2019 compared to the previous year.

Adam S. Wilk, PhD, from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emery University in Atlanta, and colleagues evaluated whether the use of school MH services increased among U.S. adolescents (ages 12 to 17) in 2019. Data included in the analysis included a national survey on drug use and health (2009 to 2019; 165,686 adolescents).
