Airbnb Ending Its COVID Cancelation Policy, Here’s Why

[ad_1]

With the number of Covid-19s declining across the country, Airbnb is updating its policies at the heart of the epidemic.

Major changes are being made to the extending situation policy to cover both infected guests and hosts. Over the last 2 years, guests can cancel and get a full refund, and hosts can cancel penalty-free upcoming reservations.

“As a result of this new Lifestyle approach, starting May 31, we are updating our Outgoing Situation Policy to no longer cover COVID-19 related situations as a reason for refunds for bookings made on or after this date,” the company said. A statement

Airbnb officials noted that many companies in the travel industry completed similar programs months ago.

“After consulting with our medical advisers, as well as with our community, we think now is the right time to take the same action,” the company said.

It also mentions that about two-thirds of hosts offer a moderate or flexible cancellation policy that includes a full refund for cancellations made 5 days in advance – and in some cases, up to 24 hours before check-in.

“As we have seen the heroic efforts of the health authorities and medical advances around the world, almost two-thirds of the world’s population has received at least one vaccine against COVID-19,” Airbnb noted. “And many countries have now implemented Living with the COVID-19 plan, because it has become part of our world.”

The change will not affect Airbnb’s many other COVID-16 policies over the past few years. Among them:

  • Frontline stays in place, allowing hosts to share their home with frontline staff and first responders.
  • Five-step advanced hygiene practices will be mandatory for all hosts.
  • An online tool for tracking travel restrictions and official advice is still available to guests before booking.
  • The SuperFund Relief Program provides $ 17 million in grants to those struggling financially as a result of the epidemic.

“The safety of our community is our priority, and we continue to monitor the situation closely,” Airbnb concluded.
